Obama puts nation at risk with CIA investigation

Commentary by James Shott

President Barack Obama has made another horrid decision, deciding not to put an immediate stop to the dangerous probe into activities of the CIA in working to protect the United States from terrorist attacks during the Bush administration.
Attorney General Eric Holder launched a preliminary investigation in August into some old cases that had already been reviewed by the Justice Department and determined to be without merit. The reviews wereSource: Faultline USA RSS Feed

Charlie 'Daily Kos' Cook?

Political analyst Charlie Cook sells himself as "independent, nonpartisan" pundit, but then how does it look when he’s donating his time and talent to a fundraising auction for Netroots Nation, the hard-left blogger convention? That’s not the biggest surprise: the Daily Kosmonaut crowd can also bid on the "Survivor Gabon Buff Autographed by Jeff Probst." At least that gift wasn't donated bySource: NewsBusters RSS Feed

Senator of Katrina-ravaged Louisiana tries to block climate change response centers

A key lesson of Katrina is that global warming “adaptation” is a cruel euphemism — and prevention is far, far cheaper. But we certainly need to prepare for the catastrophes we know are inevitable — all the more so if the global warming deniers and delayers succeed in blocking U.S. climate action.  The scientific literature, such as the journal Nature, makes clear that hurricanes ARE getting fiercer — and it’s going to get much worse.  In particular, land-falling Gulf CoastSource: Climate Progress RSS Feed

Education system FAIL again?

Over and over again, I see that our kids are not doing well in tests that pits them against the scores of students from other countries. That is a problem and no argument from me - the basics are not being taught or taught correctly. Frankly, I'm no longer (and haven't been for a while) blaming the kids. When schools seem to value social justice ideals instead of instilling a basic knowledge base of facts, fail to teach basic techniques of handling that knowledge base of information (and I'm Source: GraniteGrok RSS Feed

Update: Flooding in Atlanta

David Mattingly | BIO
AC360° Correspondent

It doesn’t look like it in this photograph but the water is moving enough to make it hard for me to keep my footing. These muddy waters are very deceptive. Some of the deaths in Georgia are the result of people being swept away as they attempted to drive through flood waters.

There’s more rain in the Atlanta forecast today making it less likely to see the water retreat.

It is S.673 and its official name is: "Newspaper Revitalization Act." The bill was introduced by Senator Ben Cardin, a Democrat of Maryland, and so far, it has only one co-sponsor and that is Senator Barbara Mikulski, also a Democrat, and also of Maryland.

Redrawing The Lines: Growing National Focus on Redistricting

In advance of the 2010 census, the ensuing Congressional redistricting is already garnering significant national attention.
